Diversity Challenge
Diversity Challenge
Diversity concerns us all. Young employees are committed to diversity in their workplace as part of the nationwide competition - also in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district.
A team from the Waldeck-Frankenberg district administration also took part in the Diversity Challenge 2022/23: A total of eight trainees from the first and second year of their apprenticeship as well as a dual student. The team wants to promote diversity in the workplace and make it visible, and by taking part we are also making a statement: Everyone wants to facilitate cultural encounters in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg! The team was accompanied by the Migration and Integration Centre.
What is the Diversity Challenge?
The Diversity Challenge is a nationwide competition for young employees on the topic of diversity in the workplace. The competition is initiated by Charta der Vielfalt e. V . In 2019, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg signed the Diversity Charter. In autumn 2022, the "WAFKB - Wir Alle Für Kulturelle Begegnungen" team of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district administration was founded. The "WAFKB - Wir Alle Für Kulturelle Begegnungen" team successfully achieved a place among the top 10 teams nationwide in the "Diversity Gestalten" competition discipline.
Challenge accepted!
The team has motivated a number of colleagues to take part in a multifaceted cookery and handbook, which not only contains 33 individual recipes, but also a wide range of information and statistics on the topic of diversity in the workplace. To this end, four different campaigns were carried out within the Waldeck-Frankenberg district administration until 30 June 2023. The cookbook and handbook, i.e. "The Recipe of Diversity", will be published internally at the beginning of 2024.
1st campaign: At the beginning of December 2022, the team, together with all trainees and students from the district administration, baked around 600 waffles for colleagues in return for donations. A total of 1,675 euros was collected for the Waldeck-Frankenberg children's cancer charity. The WAFKB team handed out postcards to draw the attention of employees at the district administration to their participation in the Diversity Challenge and thus engage in dialogue with their colleagues. In addition, all employees were able to leave a colourful fingerprint on a canvas at their place of residence.
2nd action: The anonymous and voluntary survey on the topic of "diversity in the workplace" created a data basis that was handed over to the Diversity Committee. Some of the results can be found in the planned cookery and handbook and many inspiring favourite recipes were collected through the recipe survey.
3rd action: The Diversity Day was organised by the team together with the Diversity Committee. There was a multi-faceted menu in the KreisBar, an Ethiopian picture exhibition, a digital photo exhibition and music by a regional artist. Employees of the district administration had the opportunity to submit photos on the topic of "Diversity in the workplace". As a thank you, the WAFKB team distributed T-shirts and rainbow stickers.
4th campaign: As part of the "Meet Your Lunch Buddy" campaign, employees were invited to actively sit down at a table for a week where they could consciously talk to colleagues from different specialist services. This campaign promoted togetherness and enabled the team to engage in dialogue with many people. In addition, the "Meet Your Lunch Buddy" campaign will be continued in spring 2024 to consciously strengthen the WE feeling and continue to focus on diversity in the workplace.
