Wasps: Recommendations of the district
In general, wasps do not pose a danger to humans. They can sting, which is painful, but usually harmless for humans. Nests must therefore not be removed per se.
However, if the insects interfere with everyday life to a great extent, you can have the nests gently relocated by expert persons who are trained in this. As a rule, you can turn to pest controllers in Waldeck-Frankenberg. Some beekeepers can also provide assistance. If you have questions about nature conservation law, the district's environmental service is also available. A species protection permit for the relocation of nests is only required for hornets, as they are under special protection according to the Federal Nature Conservation Act.
Only if the situation is acutely threatening to humans - for example, if a wasp nest has been built in the immediate vicinity of an allergy sufferer - should the nests be removed as part of precautionary health protection. If there is imminent danger, the fire brigade can be notified. Even then, however, an attempt should always be made to relocate the animals instead of killing them. Costs may be incurred.
To keep wasps away from cakes, drinks and barbecued food, it is recommended to drive the insects away with a blast of water from a spray bottle. The insects mistake the spray for rain and usually retreat to their nests. You should also avoid frantic movements in their presence, which the insects could perceive as a threat. Wasps are also beneficial animals worth protecting, as they naturally control many pests and pollinate some flowering plants.
