Mobile hazardous waste unit on the road again in the district

From 2 to 30 April inclusive, special collection vehicles will once again be on the road in Waldeck-Frankenberg to collect hazardous waste. This will enable citizens to dispose of hazardous waste properly. Small quantities from private households can be handed in free of charge. A charge of seven euros per kilogramme is levied on craft businesses, small businesses, service companies and the administrative sector.

Environmentally hazardous waste is accepted, the maximum acceptance quantity is limited to 100 kg per collection and household. The containers may not weigh more than 20 kg and may not be larger than 20 litres. For laboratory chemicals, concentrates, acids and alkalis as well as PCB-containing capacitors, the total acceptance quantity is a maximum of 10 kilograms or 10 litres. Cyanides and waste containing mercury may be disposed of in quantities of up to one kilogramme or one litre. The free disposal of solar thermal fluid and antifreeze from solar systems is limited to 20 litres at the mobile hazardous waste collection point for private households; however, the substances can usually also be returned via the installer.

Please note in particular that liquid hazardous waste must not be mixed together. If possible, it should be handed in to the collection vehicle in its original container and labelled accordingly. Under no circumstances may they be disposed of via the toilet or down the drain. The containers must be tightly closed and will be disposed of with the waste. Waste oils are not accepted, as all dealers are legally obliged to take back waste oils in the amount of fresh oil sold. Small quantities of used medicines from private households are accepted without packaging.

In addition to hazardous waste, small electrical appliances with a volume of up to 10 litres can also be handed in. No edge length may exceed 50 centimetres. Televisions and monitors as well as all large appliances - e.g. cookers, washing machines, dryers, microwaves, extractor bonnets, ironing machines, lawn mowers - are generally excluded from acceptance via mobile collection. They can be delivered free of charge in household quantities to the waste disposal facilities of the district or disposed of via the bulky waste collection/ depots of the cities and municipalities.

Neon tubes and energy-saving lamps can be handed in up to a maximum quantity of 10 pieces. In larger quantities, they can also be handed in free of charge at the waste disposal facilities of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. Commercial waste producers with a quantity of more than 50 lamps to be handed in should contact commercial collection points.

Hazardous waste must be handed in personally to protect children at play and must never be left unattended at the collection points. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, please do not park your own vehicle at the collection point for the hazardous waste mobile and keep the access roads clear. Personal protective equipment consisting of gloves and sturdy shoes should be worn when making deliveries.

The use of non-toxic products makes an important contribution to environmental protection. Further information is available from the district's waste advice centre on 05631 954-1746 or on the Internet at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de, search for "waste management".
