"More than just a formal act": Election call of the district administrator

The 21st German Bundestag will be elected on 23 February. District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst comments on the Bundestag election:

"The election is an important opportunity for all of us to exercise our democratic right and help shape the future of our country. The decisions we make now not only affect us - but above all our children and grandchildren. The responsibility is great. After all, our democracy is facing major challenges: Global crises, economic challenges, advancing climate change, the rapid digital transformation of all areas of life, an increasing polarisation of society, demographic developments and ensuring equal opportunities for all people. All of these issues require strong answers and a clear strategy. Each of us can help shape this.

This election is more than just a formal act. It is the centrepiece of our democracy and a privilege. At a time when democratic values are under pressure worldwide, we have the opportunity to raise our voices freely and unhindered. Find out more about the candidates and the parties. Discuss with family, friends and neighbours. And then make a well-considered decision at the ballot box.

Democracy thrives on the commitment of its citizens. Let's set a strong example together for our vibrant democracy and take responsibility. For our community, for future generations and for ourselves. Every vote counts and helps to ensure that our parliament reflects the diversity of opinions in our society. Use your right! Go and vote!"
