District supports infrastructure for cycling in the Eder Valley
First District Councillor and responsible department head Karl-Friedrich Frese announced that the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has supported its towns and municipalities with almost 80,000 euros so far this year to improve the cycling infrastructure. "We have adapted our 'Guidelines for the promotion of cycling infrastructure in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg' from September 2021", and the new version came into force in March of this year, Frese continued. To date, the programme has provided funding for a total of 23 measures as a voluntary contribution from the district. The First District Councillor and Local Mobility Coordinator Nicole Sude expressed their satisfaction with the demand for the funding programme.
At a site visit, the department head and coordinator took the opportunity to hand over a funding decision from the programme for the municipality of Edertal to Mayor Klaus Gier. The municipality would like to repair the water-bound surface of the cycle path from Kleinern to Gellershausen. For those familiar with the area: this is the Spicke to Emdenau along the forest. The district is contributing up to 30,000 euros to this project. Last year, the municipality closed the gap in the cycle path between Bergheim and Böhne by surfacing it with asphalt.
In addition to the cycling promotion programme, the district is also investing in a number of projects itself as the responsible body. As current measures in this context, Frese mentioned the roadside cycle path on the K50 between Immighausen and Ober-Ense, as well as the expansion of the Diemel cycle path on the K91 in Diemelstadt-Orpethal with the construction of two cycle path bridges and the installation of six cycle traffic duration counting points at various locations in the district. "All three projects will be realised in 2025," he said, expressing his satisfaction.
Coordinator Sude also reported that the funding applications for the extended feasibility study for a cycle path along the K22 between Nieder-Werbe and Scheid and for the district-wide cycle path signposting concept had been submitted. Preparations are also underway for the construction of a roadside cycle path on the K52 between the town centre and the sports field in Lichtenfels-Immighausen.
