District warns of expensive car deregistration scam
Deregistering your car from the comfort of your sofa with just a few clicks is a convenient service offered by the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg as well as many other districts. However, the district administration is currently warning against fake websites that merely pretend to offer this service - and make a tidy profit in the process.
The scam: The fake sites are usually listed quite high up in the results of online search engines and only pretend to offer this service to customers. They often charge hefty fees from 35 euros upwards. Users pay the high price, but the car remains registered anyway - even if some portals even send a fake deregistration confirmation.
Deregistration only via the district website
The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg clarifies: car deregistrations - if they are made online - should only be made via the district website. This costs 2.60 euros online and 16.80 euros for a personal appointment at the registration office.
Unlike the fake sites. The head of the district's traffic department, Petra Gerhold, knows: "The money is then gone - and the car is still not deregistered." This has already happened to some car owners here in Waldeck-Frankenberg. "The vehicles are then only legally deregistered with us, but of course the administrative fee still has to be paid and the customers are annoyed because they have to pay twice."
Use the district's online services
The district would therefore like to point out once again that people who use the online services can only do so directly on the district website. This also applies to all other online services: You are on the safe side if you only follow links that are stored directly on the district's website in the services. An overview of all the services that the district now offers online can be found here.
