Almost 550,000 kilometres: Successful participation in STADTRADELN

20 municipalities took part, 91 tonnes of CO² were saved, 548,828 kilometres were covered - District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst was delighted with the excellent results of this year's city cycling event, which took place from 8 - 28 June. "With this great result, we in Waldeck-Frankenberg have achieved 8th place in Hesse and have even moved up one place compared to last year," emphasised the district administrator. This also makes the district the leader in northern Hesse. As part of the celebrations to mark Waldeck-Frankenberg's 50th anniversary, van der Horst, together with local mobility coordinator Martha Schweizer and head of building services Susanne Paulus, honoured the most hard-working city cyclists. In addition to a certificate, the most active cyclists received cash and non-cash prizes.

The most cycling-active municipality with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, also the most cycling-active municipal parliament with 36.3 km per capita and in fourth place in Hesse, was the national park municipality of Edertal (48,163 km), for which Mayor Klaus Gier received a grant of 1,000 euros for the construction of cycle paths. Mayor Barbara Eckes received the same grant for the town of Frankenberg (Eder) as the most active cycling municipality with between 10,000 and 49,999 inhabitants (125,117 km).

As in the previous year, the most active individual cyclist was Reinhold Erb from Buhlen with 2,853 kilometres, while the most active and largest team was TSV 1921 Eifa (56 active cyclists, 19,425 kilometres). The club was represented at the awards by Fred Lettermann and Klaus Otto. The three teams with the most active cyclists also received a well-deserved award: the Hartmänner*innen Sabine and Timo Hartmann (2,007 km), B&E Biker Beate and Hermann Pröpper (1,720 km) and the Diakonisches Werk Waldeck-Frankenberg (789 km), represented by Anne Maier. Last but not least, the Gesamtschule Edertal was honoured in three categories: as the largest school team, the most active cycling school and the school with the most active cyclists. In the latter category, the centre school Goddelsheim came second and the Christian-Rauch-Schule Bad Arolsen third.

District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst warmly congratulated all those honoured and praised them for their active commitment to climate protection, which was expressed through their participation in the city cycling event. He concluded by naming the date for next year's Waldeck-Frankenberg city cycling event: 1 - 21 June 2025, with a focus on family-friendly and inclusive exercise options in the district. To kick things off on 1 June, a rally to the new bike park in Edertal-Giflitz will be held.
