Democracy Talk North Hesse on 17 October

The North Hessian centres for democracy promotion and cross-phenomenon extremism prevention (DEXT) invite you to their next "Democracy Talk North Hesse". It will take place online via the BigBlueButton platform on Thursday, 17 October 2024, from 6 - 7:30 pm and is free of charge. The topic will be the psychology of right-wing extremism. The speaker will be Prof. Dr Tobias Rothmund, Professor of Media and Communication Psychology at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Director of the Centre for Right-Wing Extremism Research, Democracy Education and Social Integration (KomRex) in Jena and editor of the book "Psychology of Right-Wing Radicalisation".

Right-wing extremist ideas and behaviour are becoming increasingly visible in social discourse and are not only tolerated but actively supported in parts of society. The forms of behaviour range from insults, hatred and violence against politically active people and minorities to a rejection of the free democratic basic order. Time and again, debates on this topic raise the question of where such extreme attitudes actually come from.

In his online lecture on 17 October, Prof. Dr Tobias Rothmund will use psychological approaches to explain the dynamics of right-wing radicalisation. Using a developmental psychological context, he will look at how motivation, ideology and the legitimisation of violence can lead to radicalisation. Following his presentation, there will be sufficient time for questions and discussion.

You can register online for 17 October. A link for participation will be sent out shortly before the event; it is not necessary to download any special software. If you have any questions, please contact the DEXT Waldeck-Frankenberg office on 05631 954-1561 or by e-mail at dext@lkwafkb.de.
