Strengthening accessibility: district lends out mobile ramps
The district has long been committed to improving accessibility. Mobile ramps are now also available for hire to make everyday obstacles - such as steps, edges, thresholds or kerbs - safer and wheelchair-accessible.
Whether for public or private events, for a few days or several weeks: The district's specialist service for women and equal opportunities is now making sleeper and suitcase ramps available for hire free of charge. Five different ramps are available: four sleeper ramps and one suitcase ramp. The sleeper ramps can compensate for different height differences: from 3.5 to 7 centimetres. The suitcase ramp is relatively lightweight and can be folded and fitted with a carrying handle, making it suitable for mobile use. All ramps can be used indoors and outdoors.
"We lend accessibility"
"Anyone who needs a ramp like this for an event or for other purposes, or just wants to try it out, can borrow one from us free of charge," says Alexandra Köck, coordinator of the district's accessibility model region from the Women and Equal Opportunities Service. "We lend accessibility." The ramps have already been presented at the district's 50th anniversary celebrations on the Südring at the end of September. The threshold ramps made from recycled plastic were displayed and painted there - to send a visible signal in favour of equal opportunities and inclusion. Anyone interested in the ramps is welcome to contact Alexandra Köck on 05631 - 954-1625 or by email at alexandra.koeck@lkwafkb.de.
The ramps are just one of many services offered by the model region to further improve participation in Waldeck-Frankenberg: Among other things, the model region operates a housing exchange for barrier-free housing and a corresponding register. There are also various free information, counselling and event offers on all issues relating to inclusion and accessibility. Further information can be found here.
