Anniversary exhibition opens on 14 March

The district rounds off: Waldeck-Frankenberg is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024 - including with a travelling exhibition that has been designed in collaboration with the Wolfgang-Bonhage-Museum Korbach, the Museum im Kloster Frankenberg and the Bad Wildungen Municipal Museums. It will open in Korbach on 14 March. Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend.

50 years, 50 stories from Waldeck-Frankenberg
As part of the travelling exhibition "Wir runden!", 50 people from the district tell their personal stories that connect them to Waldeck-Frankenberg. They all live here - some have only been here for a few months, others have lived here their whole lives. Some have experienced the district merger at first hand, others only know it from history books. They all bring an individual view of North Hesse's largest district - and thus reflect the diverse good life in Waldeck-Frankenberg.

Design icons from the 70s
Brightly coloured flokati carpets, Pril flowers, vintage armchairs and motif wallpaper: In addition, the exhibition will also be dedicated to the 70s. Visitors can also look forward to design icons from this period, which not only reflect the zeitgeist of this special decade, but also invite them on a short journey through time into the extraordinary history of the district.

Exhibition opening on 14 March in Korbach
The exhibition will first make a stop in Korbach. The exhibition will open at the Wolfgang Bonhage Museum on 14 March at 7 pm. "We would like to cordially invite everyone who would like to celebrate the start of our anniversary festivities with us to the exhibition opening," say District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese. "We are very much looking forward to welcoming numerous guests to the museum - also in flared trousers, platform shoes, Prilblumen dresses or disco shirts. After all, we are taking a journey back in time to the 70s as part of the exhibition," says museum director Dr Arnulf Scriba. The exhibition will be on display in Korbach until 20 May - Tuesdays to Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. during the museum's opening hours.

The district and the museums would also like to express their sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the exhibition or provided exhibits from their personal collections. This plays a major part in breathing life into the exhibition. The travelling exhibition is just one of numerous activities planned by the district to celebrate its 50th birthday in style. A major cycle tour and an anniversary celebration in late summer are also planned. All the activities are also available online on the anniversary website created especially for the milestone birthday.

Background
The formation of the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg through the merger of the two old districts in 1974 was the result of a comprehensive regional reform that the state of Hesse had initiated half a decade earlier and steadily driven forward. The state government hoped that the mergers would result in larger and therefore more efficient municipal administrations. The creation of the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg was regulated by the law on the reorganisation of the districts of Frankenberg and Waldeck of 28 September 1973, which came into force on 1 January 1974: Waldeck-Frankenberg was born!
