District took part in Diversity Day with campaigns

Raising awareness of diversity in the world of work, breaking down prejudices and promoting inclusive working environments - these are the aims of the nationwide Diversity Day, which took place on 28 May this year. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg also took part on the initiative of its Diversity Committee, as First District Councillor and Head of Social Affairs Karl-Friedrich Frese reported. The motto of Diversity Day, "Disability, accessibility and participation", was taken up in various activities.

The "barriere:zonen" exhibition, which takes a moving look at the lives and survival of people with disabilities worldwide, was on display in the foyer of the Korbach district hall as part of the Diversity Committee event. Information posters about invisible disabilities and barriers in public authorities for those affected by them offered a change of perspective and promoted understanding. The programme was rounded off with a special lunch menu from the KreisBar, which celebrated diversity and invited employees to exchange ideas.

"In 2019, we as a district signed the Diversity Charter and thus consciously decided even more clearly in favour of an organisational culture that meets the changing demands of a modern, diverse society," said the First District Councillor. The aim is to make employees more aware of the requirements of a diverse society. The aim is also to send a clear signal that the district is actively addressing the issue.

The members of the Diversity Committee added: "Diversity encompasses many different dimensions. This year, we decided to focus on the diversity dimension of disability." Disabilities are not always obvious, and Diversity Day wanted to sensitise people to this. Respectful and understanding interaction is therefore all the more important.

In the district administration, the representative body for severely disabled employees is the point of contact for colleagues with a disability. Externally, the Municipal Disability Officer and the coordinator of the model region for accessibility are committed to promoting participation. The information posters about non-visible disabilities emphasised that disability is not synonymous with lower performance.
