Anniversary exhibition opens in Frankenberg on 15 June

Waldeck-Frankenberg is celebrating its 50th anniversary - among other things with a travelling exhibition that was conceived together with the Wolfgang Bonhage Museum Korbach, the Museum im Kloster Frankenberg and the Bad Wildungen Municipal Museums. After stopping off in Korbach in the spring, the exhibition is now moving on to Frankenberg - and will be opened on 15 June at 5 pm in the town hall chancel.

50 years, 50 stories from Waldeck-Frankenberg
As part of the travelling exhibition "Wir runden!", 50 people from the district tell their personal stories that connect them to Waldeck-Frankenberg. They all live here - some have only been here for a few months, others have lived here their whole lives. Some have experienced the district merger at first hand, others only know it from history books. They all bring an individual view of North Hesse's largest district - and thus reflect the diverse good life in Waldeck-Frankenberg.

Exhibition opening on 15 June in Frankenberg
After the exhibition made a stop in Korbach in spring, it can be seen in Frankenberg from 16 June to 11 August: Due to the remodelling of the museum in the monastery, it will be shown in the Haus am Geismarer Tor - on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 pm. The official opening of the exhibition will take place on 15 June at 5 p.m. in the Frankenberg Rathausausschirn.

"We would like to cordially invite all interested parties to the exhibition opening and look forward to welcoming numerous guests," say District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese. "The cooperation with the district and the museums in Korbach and Bad Wildungen is a great enrichment. The result is an exciting exhibition with personal contributions from citizens for citizens," says Dr Birgit Kümmel, director of the museum in Frankenberg Abbey. After the exhibition is shown in Frankenberg over the summer, it will be on display again in the Wandelhalle in Bad Wildungen from August to October,

Design icons from the 70s
Brightly coloured flokati carpets, Pril flowers, vintage armchairs and motif wallpaper: In addition to the personal stories, the exhibition also focuses on the 70s. Visitors can also look forward to design icons from this period, which not only reflect the zeitgeist of this special decade, but also invite them on a short journey through time into the extraordinary history of the district. The district and the museums would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the exhibition or provided exhibits from their personal collections. This has played a major part in breathing life into the exhibition.

The travelling exhibition is just one of numerous activities that the district has planned to celebrate its 50th birthday in style. There are also plans for a big bike tour on 8 June and an anniversary celebration on 28 and 29 September at Korbacher Südring. All information about the events can also be found online on the anniversary website created especially for the milestone birthday at www.50jahre-gutleben.de.

Background
The formation of the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg through the merger of the two old districts in 1974 was the result of a comprehensive regional reform that the state of Hesse had initiated half a decade earlier and steadily driven forward. The state government hoped that the mergers would result in larger and therefore more efficient municipal administrations. The creation of the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg was regulated by the law on the reorganisation of the districts of Frankenberg and Waldeck of 28 September 1973, which came into force on 1 January 1974: Waldeck-Frankenberg was born!
