GrenzWelten National Geopark certified for a further five years

District Administrator and Head of Environmental Affairs Jürgen van der Horst has good news for all fans of the home of the Procynosuchus and the Iguanodon: GrenzWelten has once again been certified as a "National Geopark". The Geopark can use the title for a further five years and use the designation on its website and in publications.

The GrenzWelten thus continue their successful development, which began with the first certification in 2009. The GeoUnion Alfred Wegener Foundation, which is responsible for the re-evaluation and re-certification together with a commission, also attests to the Geopark's success.

"The Geopark is a leader when it comes to augmented reality," the district administrator quoted from the certification notice. The commission also described the new website as exemplary and emphasised the explanatory videos for individual geoscientific topics as exemplary. Successful new print products, the expansion of the range of events for schools and the inclusion of kindergartens in the educational programme added to the Commission's praise. "GrenzWelten can truly be proud of making such an excellent contribution to the National Geoparks in Germany," said van der Horst, praising the work of the project team in the Environment and Climate Protection Department.
