Self-defence for women: Places still available for 9 December
Studies show that almost 60 per cent of women surveyed avoid certain places or parks at night. Around 40 per cent of women try not to leave the house at night. For this reason, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is offering self-defence courses for women this year to mark the International Day against Violence against Women. There are still places available for the course on 9 December.
Drawing attention to gender-based violence
Orange Day is an annual day of action - on 25 November - which aims to raise public awareness of gender-based violence. The Women and Equal Opportunities Service organises various activities every year - this year self-defence courses for women, with the support of the Soroptimist Clubs in Korbach and Bad Wildungen. Two have already taken place last weekend. The third will take place on 9 December from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cine K Korbach.
Places still available
Interested women and girls aged 16 and over are welcome to register online. Participation costs five euros and a maximum of 18 women can take part in each course. "For Orange Day 2023, we are offering the self-defence courses this year because we want to help as many women and girls as possible to focus on their own strength in dangerous situations, find solutions and overcome the feeling of powerlessness," says Beate Friedrich, the district's women's representative. "We therefore look forward to as many participants as possible."
