Helenental School Bad Wildungen officially opened
A ceremony was held at the primary school in Bad Wildungen to which the district and the school had jointly invited. The event was attended by representatives of the architects and contractors, the state education authority, the district committees and, of course, the school community of Helenental School.
Needs-based and friendly rooms
As part of the refurbishment, the building was first completely gutted in summer 2021. The single-storey flat-roofed building attached to the classroom wing, which formerly housed the caretaker's flat and the school administration, was demolished, rebuilt and extended by one storey using a timber frame construction. This created space on the upper floor for the new, needs-orientated and friendly school administration area. A new catering kitchen with a dining room was built on the ground floor. In addition, a glass partition wall was installed towards the foyer, which can be pushed to the side if required and the area can thus be converted into an assembly hall.
Good conditions for a modern teaching and learning environment
Furthermore, as part of the project, all technical systems were brought up to the latest state of the art, the layout of the building was optimised and adapted to the room requirements. New support and differentiation rooms, a music and creative room and a media library, as well as equipping all classes with media columns and presentation technology, create good conditions for a modern teaching and learning environment, the pedagogical concept and all-day lessons. A lift provides barrier-free access to almost all areas of the school. In addition, the school will be accessed via a new, prestigious main entrance from Stresemannstraße. The new schoolyard has also been given a small playing field, play, balancing and climbing facilities and seating stones, which invite children to linger and will therefore provide the school community with an optimal break organisation.
School independent of fossil fuels
The construction project was significantly influenced by the energy crisis caused by the war. Last year, the district changed its plans again at short notice due to current developments in the energy supply - and switched to air/heat pumps for the school's energy supply. This means that in future the school will be completely independent of fossil fuels for the building's energy supply and a sustainable and secure long-term energy supply can be guaranteed for the school.
