Strengthening health promotion and prevention in Waldeck-Frankenberg

Ensuring good health and a high quality of life in Waldeck-Frankenberg. The district wants to achieve this together with the GKV Alliance for Health - and is currently working on a corresponding strategy in various working groups.

Always thinking about health
Whether promoting cycling or supporting a healthy diet for daycare centre children: The district has already been implementing many measures to promote public health for several years. Now it will go one step further - and develop an overall municipal strategy for this area. The aim is to ensure that health aspects are taken into account in all political decisions - whether in social, educational, environmental, transport, urban development, economic or labour policy. The aim is to strengthen health promotion and prevention in the long term.

Planning health promotion for specific target groups
"The public health service not only takes care of traditional municipal healthcare tasks such as infection control. Rather, our mission also includes creating and ensuring equal health opportunities for all people in Waldeck-Frankenberg," emphasises Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor and Head of the Health Department. "To this end, we have formed interdisciplinary working groups with experts who are dedicated to the needs of people at all stages of life." After all, health promotion must be planned in a target group-orientated manner if it is to have an impact.

Needs-orientated health services
What health challenges do people in Waldeck-Frankenberg face? And what action is needed as a result? The working groups will discuss and answer these and many other questions together over the coming weeks and months - and develop an overall strategy with specific recommendations for action for the entire district. "The aim is to establish cooperation with all social stakeholders, such as the administration, players in the field of health promotion and prevention as well as citizens, and to pool existing resources in Waldeck-Frankenberg," emphasises Frese. The aim is to achieve a higher quality of life and good health for as many people as possible - and especially for socially disadvantaged people. Existing health services are to be harmonised and new services created in line with demand so that all people can find access regardless of age, gender or social status.
