Open Monument Day: Buildings from Waldeck-Frankenberg take part

The Open Monument Day is the largest cultural event in Germany - and this year it takes place nationwide on Sunday, 10 September. Monuments in Waldeck-Frankenberg also open their doors as part of this day of action. The district's building department is calling attention to this.

On this day, otherwise closed doors of historical sites all over Germany are opened. The Open Monument Day, coordinated nationwide by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, shines a spotlight on special monument talents this year under the motto "Talent Monument". More than 5,500 monuments with numerous events and over 500 monument tours can be discovered throughout Germany this year.

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is also taking part this year: six listed buildings will open their doors and gates to interested visitors. They include the longitudinal plank house in Volkmarsen-Ehringen, the stonework in Volkmarsen, half-timbered buildings in Lichtenfels-Sachsenberg, the vicarage in Frankenberg-Viermünden, the Diemelsächsisches Ackerbürgerhaus museum in Bad Arolsen-Mengeringhausen and the baroque garden at Neuburg Castle in Battenberg. The exact times and locations for the individual stops are summarised in a programme available online at www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de. There is also a monument map there. There you will also find a monument map in which all open monuments are geographically located.

The district's building department is responsible for the protection of monuments in Waldeck-Frankenberg. Its aim is to preserve the original building fabric and the historical appearance of cultural monuments as far as possible. In this context, the district also promotes the renovation and new use of old buildings.
