Safe apping and chatting: district and police give media training
Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat: it is almost impossible to imagine everyday life for young people without social media. In order to educate pupils about the dangers of the Internet, the district and the police have jointly offered media competence training for school social workers.
During the workshop, they were sensitised to certain topics - to educate children and young people in the use of social media. Because: It turns out that pupils are often not sufficiently educated, also when it comes to cyberbullying, subscription traps or even sharing inappropriate content. The youth coordinator of the Waldeck-Frankenberg police department, Manuel Luxenburger, and the school social worker of the Edertal primary school, Julia Jespers, developed the concept - and gave the multiplier workshop for the school social workers from Waldeck-Frankenberg.
For the implementation at schools for children in grade four, an amount of six school hours is planned in the future. After participating in the training, the school social workers will be able to make the distinction between the real and the virtual world even clearer to the children and discuss together what needs to be observed when using social media and messenger services or when sharing postings or videos. Topics such as gaming on the net or paid apps are also included. The aim is to talk to the children about their experiences on the Internet and to sensitise them to careful use.
