Drinking water hygiene

Drinking water hygiene

In order to ensure the natural quality of drinking water as a healthy food, high demands are placed on the operators of water supply systems. These are listed in the Drinking Water Ordinance 2001. The monitoring and testing of these systems is the task of the Health Department of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district.

In addition to the technical inspection of the installations, compliance with the legally prescribed limit values is also checked, which are measured in regular water tests. One focus of this monitoring is drinking water installations from which water is provided to the public. These include, for example, schools, kindergartens, hospitals. However, drinking water installations that provide water for commercial activities are also included (e.g. rented flats, fitness studios, etc.). Here, special attention is paid to legionella.

Legionella

Legionella are bacteria that are present in low concentrations in groundwater and can contaminate drinking water.

Domestic hot water systems

Owners of industrial water systems who use such systems in addition to an existing drinking water connection in the household are subject to a notification obligation.
