Help & support in cases of domestic violence

Help & support in cases of domestic violence

Around one in four women in Germany experience physical and/or sexualised violence from a current or former partner at least once in their lives. Anyone who is threatened or affected by violence - especially domestic violence - has the right to seek counselling and support.

Where can I find help?

Violence is not always physical
In the following cases, although no criminal prosecution is possible, civil law measures and protective measures are possible - because this is also violence:

  •  Is your partner following or controlling you?
  • Does he hide or destroy things that mean a lot to you?
  • Is your partner trying to cut off your contact with family and friends?
  • Is he accusing you of cheating on him if you come home just a little later than usual?

Criminal offences
The following acts, among others, are punishable by law:

  • Insults & verbal abuse
  • Death threats
  • Coercion & rape
  • Sexual abuse of children & wards
  • any physical violence such as pushing, slapping, kicking, hitting, etc.
